Wigmore Hall: Scotland’s composers 3

Wigmore Hall , 36 Wigmore Street, London, W1U 2BP

In our final concert of a day-long showcase of Scotland’s composers at Wigmore Hall we revisit our first ever commission, John Bevan Baker’s exquisitely crafted Eclogue from 1994, set here in company with other contemporary landmarks of Scotland’s thriving musical culture. The programme embraces the inspiring energy of Scottish traditional music and its expression through two irresistible works by Judith Weir, the edgy soundworlds of Thea Musgrave’s Night Windows, inspired by a famous Edward Hopper painting, and I am Prometheus, Stuart MacRae’s compassionate portrait of a tragically flawed Greek hero.

For this evening performance we are joined by tenor, Joshua Ellicott.

Programme:
Judith Weir Airs from Another Planet
Helen Grime Into the faded air
Thea Musgrave Night Windows
John Bevan Baker Eclogue
Judith Weir The Bagpiper’s String Trio
Stuart MacRae I am Prometheus
