Since it was the day of preparation… – Glasgow

James MacMillan
Since it was the day of preparation…

“Since it was the day of preparation” are the words that open the final section of St John’s Gospel, following the death of Jesus. James MacMillan’s masterful setting of the story of the resurrection and the days following is in equal parts sombre and vivid, reflective and ecstatic.

Hebrides Ensemble has a deep affinity with Since it was the day of Preparation…, having premiered it in 2012 and performed it many times since, including for a critically-acclaimed recording of the work released on Delphian Records in 2016. For this concert the Ensemble joins forces with RCS VOICES for a compelling version which builds on the initial scoring for solo voices, bringing heightened intensity to this already powerful work.

This concert forms part of the 2019/20 Cumnock Tryst Music Club series.

Friday 27 March, 1.00pm, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland
