The Piano Tuner for piano trio was premiered in 2004 and was inspired by Nigel Osborne’s opera of the same name, telling a vivid and bizarre story of travel to the jungle in a wonderful synthesis of Eastern and Western music. The Piano Trio from the young Claude Debussy reveals the artist as a young man with music full of elegance and refinement. Judith Weir’s Distance and Enchantment for piano quartet is based on folk melodies about mysterious vanishings whilst Brahms’s great, brooding and dark, Piano Quartet in C minor brings a powerful end to the programme.
