The Soldier’s Tale
Saturday 4th August 2018
3pm and 7.30pm
70 minutes. There will be no interval
Lincoln Drill Hall, Freeschool Lane, Lincoln, LN2 1EY
Once again the BBC Proms travels outside London, this time to Lincoln, where we make our Proms debut.
The city’s 19th-century Drill Hall – home to the Fourth Battalion of the Lincolnshire Regiment, deployed to the Western Front in 1914 – is the evocative setting for a staged performance of Stravinsky’s First World War music-theatre piece The Soldier’s Tale.
William Conway conducts Hebrides Ensemble in this tale of a young man who sells his soul (and his violin) to the Devil in exchange for untold wealth – or so it seems.
This concert will be broadcast live at 3pm on BBC Radio 3.
